What is Root Barrier?

A Root Barrier is a defence system put into place to stop roots from spreading in an undesirable manner. PBA Solutions can help protect your property from damage with our range of root barrier membranes.

Roots by nature spread wherever they can, which is why you can see so many cracked pavement slabs near a tree. Although it’s natural for trees and other plants to search for nutrients via their root systems, it can be dangerous and compromising if a building is involved. Subsidence can occur and if they are close enough, the plants can find a way into the structure and start growing inside!

Root barrier systems by PBA Solutions are specifically designed to prevent this from happening by forming an impenetrable barrier that deflects roots away from an area. This form of root barrier protection is not just for overzealous plants, it can be used as part of a system to control invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed to name a few. Invasive weeds have a particularly hardy root system in that their rhizomes (underground plant stems) grow aggressively and extensively, which makes them difficult to remove without specialist knowledge and equipment.

Take a look at our full list of invasive weeds that you need to look out for.

Root barrier systems are not just used for protecting buildings, they are also used to prevent pipes and pipe systems from being compromised. Invasive weeds are one of the biggest causes of pipe bursts.

PBA Solutions offers a range of barriers dependent on your needs that last up to 50 years. This means that whether you’re just landscaping or preventing invasive weeds from taking root, PBA Solutions’ barriers provide a long-term solution to whatever you need.
